As of Monday 23rd March, the necessary steps are to respect the closest thing to a nationwide &#8216;lockdown&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full guidance on staying at home now states that individuals should only go outside to;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shopping for basic necessities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For one form of exercise a day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Travel to-and-from work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, all non-essential shops and community places have been closed and the police have been given the powers to intervene where necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">here<\/a> for further clarification on the new phase of coronavirus measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the start, the UK government adopted a \u2018staged approach\u2019 in response to the coronavirus and the PM hopes reassurance comes from the fact that he and his advisors are holding daily evening press conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So,\nwhat do we know of the national situation so far?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Let\u2019s Keep Socially\nDistant<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"475\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-4-1024x475.png\" alt=\"Social distancing coronavirus measures\" class=\"wp-image-3194 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-4-1024x475.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-4-300x139.png 300w, https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-4-768x356.png 768w, https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-4-960x445.png 960w, https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-4-260x121.png 260w, https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-4.png 1061w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1024px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1024\/475;\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Courtesy of www.gov.uk<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>\u201cSteps that are unprecedented since World War two.\u201d \u2013 Boris\nJohnson<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as the measures of the national &#8216;lockdown&#8217;, the advice currently in the UK is that we must all adopt \u2018social distancing\u2019 measures, which means we should;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid non-essential public transport.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work from home where possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid large gatherings and public social venues i.e. cinemas, theatres.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid contact with someone displaying COVID-19 symptoms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limit face-to-face interaction with those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/guidance-on-shielding-and-protecting-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19\/guidance-on-shielding-and-protecting-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">who are pregnant, over 70 or have an underlying health condition.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s fair to say that this advice, pre-lockdown, has not been followed as precisely as the government hoped. It is for that reason that stricter measures have been implemented. This comes as a result of the pandemic causing\nmass border closures and travel restrictions worldwide, with many more likely\nto follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/travel\/2020\/mar\/19\/coronavirus-travel-updates-which-countries-have-restrictions-and-fco-warnings-in-place\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">here<\/a>&nbsp;to find out more about the border and travel regulations of nations across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re already abroad or find your travel from the UK is essential, the FCO advises you to;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contact transport providers about the nature of your trip.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check travel insurance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare for financial disruption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arrange extra support for yourself, as well as your family and friends whether that be medical, financial etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare to follow local authority advise and restrictions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check for national and global updates regularly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Domestic travel across the UK has also been impacted with bus, train and tube services all being reduced to combat the virus spread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Home Life<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"475\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-3-1024x475-1.jpg\" alt=\"Laptop, books and glasses\" class=\"wp-image-13978 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-3-1024x475-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-3-1024x475-1-300x139.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.staysitu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/photo-1568316031054-57c7d4c15981-1-3-1024x475-1-768x356.jpg 768w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1024px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1024\/475;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps the biggest impact felt across the UK is the disruption to our everyday schedules.&nbsp;Working from home where possible has been advised, so thousands of companies across the UK have now either closed their doors or adopted a remote working strategy. Non-essential food shops, bars, cafes, gyms, leisure centres, pubs, restaurants, theatres and night clubs have also all been forced to shut in an attempt to limit social gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, parents were told that from Friday, March 20<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;schools will be asked to continue to provide care for a limited number of children \u2013 who are vulnerable, whose parents are critical to the COVID-19 response, and those who cannot be safely cared for at home. The likes of Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury\u2019s have all introduced multiple purchase limits and opening hours dedicated to the elderly and NHS workers, to ensure everyone has food to support themselves and their families. The government and these supermarkets, however, insist that the UK\u2019s supply chain has enough to support everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, who knows what will happen next as this unprecedented period continues.
