Disability Confident Team

SITU Serviced Apartments are proud to announce that we are now officially a Disability Confident Committed employer. By committing to this National Scheme, we are fulfilling our ambition to maintain a recruitment process which is inclusive and accessible for everyone. We join thousands of employers who also embrace a vision for society where everybody is able to fulfil their absolute potential within employment.

SITU believe anybody and everybody can bring an array of skills, energy and commitment to our company, and should be allowed the opportunity to flourish in their role. We also recognise that 83% of people will acquire a disability whilst already at work. Therefore, it is important to show the necessary support required to keep anyone with a disability in the company. SITU wish to make the most of the talents of everyone, whether they are already part of our team or wish to join us.

The Disability Confident Employer Scheme

Introduced in July 2013 the Disability Confident Scheme has an aim of supporting “employers to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to their workplace.” As a result, this would also reduce the significant gap between the numbers of employed non-disabled people compared to those who are disabled.

By the end of 2017, it was found that around 5,300 employers had signed up to this scheme. These numbers have undoubtedly increased considerably since then too. The Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work Sarah Newton MP believes the scheme “is making a real impact, and the many thousands of employers who have already signed up are thinking differently and obviously believe so too.”

Any employer can become Disability Confident Committed. All they must do is agree to the commitments set out by the scheme. For instance, companies must;

  1. Ensure the recruitment process is inclusive and accessible
  2. Communicate and promote available vacancies to everyone
  3. Offer an interview to people with disabilities
  4. Anticipate and provide reasonable employment adjustments were necessary
  5. Support existing employees who develop a disability to stay in work

SITU happily adhere to all of these expectations and will continue to do so in the future.
