The capital city of Copenhagen is 300 kilometres away by car using the E20 motorway. Follow the E45 from north to Aalborg or south to the German border. Things to Do in Aarhus

The best way to get to know the city is on foot. The historic centre of Aarhus is small. Although the city is the second-largest after Copenhagen, all the sights can be seen on an hour's walk.

The main centre of contemporary art in Aarhus is the ARoS Museum of Fine Arts. The world-famous installation ‘Your Rainbow Panorama’ created by the famous Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson is on the roof of the museum. 

The unique Gamle By Museum preserves the traditions of urban culture. Houses built in the last 500 years were brought together from all over Denmark and assembled in their original form. Gamle By also shows relics of the 1970s: tape recorders, vinyl records, and objects from the hippie subculture.

Transport

By Air

The best way to get to Aarhus is via Aarhus Airport which lies 40 kilometres to the east of Aarhus. Use bus 925X to travel to the city centre, the trip takes around 30 minutes. Another important gateway to Jutland is Billund Airport which is located 100 kilometres southwest of Aarhus. Bus 992X departs from Radisson SAS in Aarhus to the airport terminal. The trip takes just over one-and-a-half hours.

By Rail

Train travel to and around Aarhus is quick and comfortable. The easiest way to get to Aarhus from Copenhagen is to take a direct train that departs from Copenhagen Central Station and takes you to Aarhus Central Station. Travel time is around three hours, the fare depends on the date and time of travel. There are several daily trains from Hamburg to Aarhus.

By Bus

You can get around Aarhus on city buses, by bike, or on foot. Single-fare tickets can be bought either from the driver or at ticket machines on the bus. Consider purchasing an Aarhus Pass card if you plan to travel frequently.

Travelling by coach is the most economical option. The travel time from Copenhagen is four hours. For departures from Copenhagen, check the timetable and the station of departure on the online map and book tickets in advance. From Aarhus, coaches depart from the central station and tickets can be bought on the day.

By Bike

In the summer months, you can explore Aarhus by bike. Rent one from an agency or ride a free city bike at one of the points located throughout the city. You will be asked to leave a deposit in the machine.
