Where is Bredon?

Bredon is a small village sitting beside the River Avon at the base of Bredon Hill in Wychavon district. It is located at the southern edge of Worcestershire in the West Midlands. Bredon is several miles north-east of the larger town of Tewkesbury, and south-west from Evesham.

The hill above the village reaches a total of 1000 ft with the addition of Parson’s Folly, a building erected in the 18th century for that very purpose. You’ll also find standing stones here. From the hill it’s possible to spot a total of eight counties, in addition to the Malvern Hills and the meandering of both the Avon and Severn Rivers.

Cheltenham is the nearest city to Bredon. It’s 12 miles away, and 15 minutes by car via the M5. Worcester is 19 miles away, which is 26 minutes by car via the M5 but in the opposite direction. 

Tewkesbury is the nearest town to Bredon at around three-and-a-half miles away and a six-minute drive by car via the B4080. From London, Bredon is a journey time of 2 hours 21 minutes via the M40 and A40.

Another big attraction in Bredon is the parish church of St. Giles. Begun in the 12th century and finished in the 14th, it boasts stained glass and medieval tiles in the sanctuary. The Mitton Chapel sits on detached shafts of Purbeck marble. There are also 14th century monuments, and a tomb containing the heart of an unknown crusader from the 13th century.

There are plenty of sporting activities to enjoy in the village. There’s an impressive cricket club, as well as a bowls ground, tennis courts, and a football club. There are two pubs in the village as well as a couple of village stores, the larger of the two has a post office and bakery.

Meanwhile, for those who want to go hiking and exploring the local flora and fauna, Kemerton Lake Nature Reserve sits nearby. This is a 46.5-acre wetland complex created out of a former gravel working. Today it’s a designated Local Wildlife Site with a 16-acre lake, pools, reed beds, grassland, and land developed for arable plants to grow.

Birmingham Airport is the nearest to Bredon at a distance of 51 miles and 54 minutes. It’s 1 hour 7 minutes by train from Tewksbury. Bristol Airport is 1 hour 10 minutes by car via the M5. It’s 2 hours 42 minutes by bus to Gloucester and train to Bristol, then bus to the airport.

Heathrow is 1 hour 47 minutes by car and 2 hours 35 minutes by train via Pershore. The bus takes 3 hours 54 minutes.

Stansted Airport is a drive of 2 hours and 36 minutes from Bredon via the M25 and a distance of 139 miles. London City Airport is 2 hours 43 minutes by car via the M25.

By Rail

The nearest mainline railway station to Bredon is at Pershore, an eleven-minute drive.
