Sitting in Essex on the north-east border of Greater London in the East of England, Brentwood is best known as the backdrop and location for the TV reality show, The Only Way is Essex.

Being just a few miles from the M25 (the London orbital road) and sitting near the A12 which runs through Essex itself, Brentwood is a dream for drivers looking to gain quick access to London and the South. The A12, for instance, leads to Stratford and on to Felixstowe and Lowestoft, ending in Great Yarmouth. The M11 (a mere junction down the M25) takes you to Cambridge in an hour.

Things To Do in Brentwood

It may be close to densely populated London, but there are plenty of lovely green areas in Brentwood, such as Shenfield Common, Warley Country Park, and King George's Playing Fields.

Country Parks in the vicinity include Thorndon Park, with its Gruffalo Trail for kids. The latter will also love Weald Park and the Stick Man Play Trail. Old MacDonald’s Farm, on the outskirts of town, lets kids get up close and personal with a range of domestic and farm animals.

Sporty types will be glad of the Brentwood Centre, where they can swim, play squash, and attend the gym. Then there is the Brentwood Park Ski and Snowboard Centre with its dry ski slope. There are also three local golf courses.

History also plays a large part in Brentwood, with a 12th-century ruined chapel in the centre of town. The Brentwood Museum is a 19th century building with local household items dating as far back as 1840 and right up to the 1950s.

 

Transport

By Air

Brentwood is very well served for airports, the nearest being Southend Airport at just 20 miles away. The next nearest airport is Stansted Airport, just half an hour’s drive away.

Luton, Gatwick, and Heathrow are all within an hour’s drive too. Luton Airport is 46 miles away, Gatwick is 49 miles away, while Heathrow is the furthest at 55 miles away from Brentwood.

By Rail

Brentwood has two railways station. These are Brentwood – the more central of the two and based at Warley Hill – and Shenfield, at Hutton Road. The distance between the two stations is 22 minutes on foot.

Trains to London Liverpool Street Station from Brentwood run every ten minutes. Brentwood to London takes forty minutes, although from Shenfield it’s only 28 minutes. Colchester is 34 minutes away by train.

By Bus

Buses running to Brentwood include the numbers 269, 31, 498, and 81. Operators are the local NIBSbuses, First Bus, and London Buses. Basildon takes 58 minutes using the number 9 bus. The same bus takes you to Billericay in 24 minutes.
