About Maidstone

Overview

Corporate housing in Maidstone often serves those visiting local business, but is also great for those who don’t want to be too far from the capital.

About Maidstone

The county town of Kent is a large town of over 100,000 people that sits on the River Medway, nicely within commuting distance of London, yet also not far from the coast. Within the wide and largely countrified area of Kent, business travellers are often drawn to Maidstone as a commercial centre and come seeking serviced apartments there. However, the town has plenty more to offer than just shopping, and while you’re staying in short term accommodation in the area you will find that Maidstone provides a pleasant atmosphere and a wealth of things to do nearby.

Corporate housing in Maidstone often serves those visiting local business, but is also great for those who don’t want to be too far from the capital. Maidstone sits next to J6 and J7 of the M20 motorway, with the M2 a little beyond that. The M25 is about a 30 minute drive from the centre Maidstone. Maidstone barracks, Maidstone West and Maidstone East are the town’s three train stations. Maidstone East runs regular services to and from London Victoria, which leave about every 30 minutes on average and take just over an hour.

Due to plenty of expansion in the last few decades, Maidstone’s history is a little hidden away. In another town, this might seem like more of a tragedy, but in Maidstone it is all still very much there if look and, as a result, the town has managed to keep with the times, turning from heavy industry to lighter, more modern ones and, of course, to the retail sector. And don’t knock that, as Maidstone’s reputation for ‘a good day out at the shops’ has been hard earned with areas like the High Street and Jubilee Square undergoing significant landscaping to renew what had become a tired-looking town centre. The town now ranks in the top five places for shopping in the south-east of England. Other significant shopping areas you might want to check out while staying in corporate accommodation in Maidstone are Fremlin Walk and Maidstone Market.

Eating out in the town comes with plenty of options, both in terms of restaurants and smaller cafes and also with British and international options. If you like Mediterranean flavours, there is the Vesuvius Italian restaurant, as well as Artemis, which serves excellent Greek food. There are also Nepalese restaurants, such as The Gurkha Kitchen near the Maidstone West station, the Raj of Kent for curry and the Thai Orchid Maidstone next to the Medway. However, it is also worth exploring the local area for some excellent country pubs and examples of fine dining.

There is plenty to do while in extended stay apartments in Maidstone, not just the typical museums – which Maidstone does have – but plenty of other things that get you out and about. The presence of the lovely Medway gives the opportunity to enjoy a Kentish Lady River Cruise, while another outdoorsy attraction is Kent Life Heritage Farm, a fun step back in time with friendly animals, historic houses and a vintage tearoom for a bite to eat. Headcorn Aerodrome lies less than 10 miles to the southwest, about halfway towards Ashford and, although weather dependent, can include a host of surprises such as parachutists, fascinating planes and helicopters and even the occasional Spitfire. Entrance is usually free if there isn’t a specific event on, there is a cafe and pleasure flights can be arranged if booked in advance.

Closer in, is it medieval Mote Park, which covers an astonishing 450 acres and includes the opportunity to hop on a Segway and, during the summer, take a ride on a model railway.
