Where is Marbella?

Marbella is one of the most famous resorts of Andalucía, in the south of Spain. The capital of Spain is 530 kilometres to the North by car. Cordoba is 160 kilometres to the north via A-45. Seville and its international airport are only 200 kilometres away to the west, but the nearest city and airport is Malaga, 60 kilometres to the east using the AR-7 motorway. The picturesque mountain range and skiing resort the Sierra Nevada is within 220 kilometres to the east via Granada.

With Situ, you can trust that wherever you need to be in the area, we can provide a serviced apartment in Marbella to suit your needs and requirements.

Marbella Business & Economy

Marbella is a luxury destination and celebrities’ retreat and has a unique “can-do” atmosphere, the foundation of all the major business and investment opportunities in Marbella.

The majority of revenue in Marbella comes from a high concentration of bespoke services and luxury brands. The major employers in the town are vending businesses, luxury and high-street brands, real estate and management. The hospitality scene is very lively in Marbella, and new franchise nightclubs and author’s cocktail bars are always in demand.

An important characteristic feature of business in Marbella is its seasonal cycle. While in the summer months the life is centred on tourism and related services, in the low season in winter the focus of attention shifts to real estate and medical services. Many of the best European plastic surgery, diabetes and weight loss clinics are here, serving thousands of customers each year.

Another unique feature of Marbella is its international staff fluent in many languages other than Spanish, which is always useful for customer-facing business roles. As a result of the high demand for language fluency, there are multiple language schools in Marbella and a few high-ranking international schools that cater for relocated foreign citizens who call Marbella their home.

The beaches and seaside of Marbella draw numerous visitors and create plenty of demand for high-class services in water sports organization and event management, yacht maintenance and related hospitality. Costa del Sol is known for its buzzing nightlife and elite properties concentrated around sports marinas and destined to affluent aficionados of water sports. Puerto Banus is the quintessence of wealth in Marbella and home to the most fashionable shopping and luxurious real estate.

Living in Marbella

Marbella is a lot more than just a holiday town, it is very attractive for a short business visit and as a relocation destination. Marbella became popular first with the British and later with Germans and Dutch, which is why Marbella has a reliable infrastructure of international colleges, sports facilities and medical services catering for foreign residents who call Marbella their second home.

One thing that has not been adapted to suit foreign residents is bureaucracy and the opening times of places. Most shops open at 10 am and close for siesta around midday, and then reopen after 4 pm till late, and everything is closed on Sundays. Banks and local councils open to visitors only for a few hours in the mornings, allowing you to do only one activity per day.

Today Marbella can be seen as a brand of its own, a brand that stands for luxury and superb quality. Therefore, the real estate market of Marbella differs from the rest of Costa del Sol and Spain in general. The properties and services tick all the high-class quality boxes, and you can see why life costs here are higher than in other towns of Spain. But put into perspective, on average, living in Marbella is significantly cheaper than in London or many other European capitals or big cities.

Marbella is undoubtedly a very healthy place to live, as its countryside is a paradise for hikers and cyclists. Runners and cyclists will appreciate the flat promenades and routes that go along the waterfront. Golf enthusiasts will be delighted to know that there are over 70 golf courses in and around Marbella, more than anywhere in Europe.

The upside of Marbella’s classy living is a remarkably low crime rate and extraordinary security. Living in Marbella is relaxing and enjoyable, built around spending time with friends and family, the general vibe is terrific, making Marbella extremely tempting for becoming a full-time resident or a frequent guest. Even in quieter months of winter, the town is very livable, it is just different from what most tourists know.

Transport

By Air

One of the biggest advantages of Marbella is how well connected it is. Malaga airport is the third largest airport in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona, and it is the most convenient one for Marbella. Regular flights bring passengers from every EU country, most large UK cities, all major Spanish airports and many other locations. The trip from the airport is easy with a regular shuttle service, which will take you to Marbella in an hour. Ask for the shuttle service directly at the airport at the dedicated information desk. Car sharing providers like Uber are very popular all over Spain, and this is an option to consider.

There is no direct train to Marbella, a train from Malaga will only take you halfway to Fuengirola, and you can continue by bus from there. Driving yourself from the airport in a rental car may be tempting, but it is important to point out that parking in Marbella and along the coast, in general, may be difficult.
If you are flying to Spain via Madrid and then wish to continue to Marbella, bear in mind that there is no direct connection between the capital and Marbella. All public transport to Marbella takes you to Malaga first. You can take a high-speed AVE train to Malaga train station and then continue to Marbella from there. Seville airport is another important gateway to Spain, and if you are travelling from Seville to Marbella, you can choose between train routes via Cordoba or Cadiz, both of which are not direct and take over 5 hours.

By Train

There is no railroad network in Marbella, and the nearest train station is Maria Sambrano station in Malaga. There are frequent trains to Madrid, Valencia and Cordoba from Malaga train station.

By Bus

Avanza is the main transport provider for Marbella and its 7 routes cover all the town and most of the surrounding neighbourhoods. There are regular coaches to Marbella from Granada, Alicante and other major destinations with Alsa, one of the major coach lines for Spain. Information about routes and tariffs is available on both the providers’ websites, and the journey planner makes your trip fairly straightforward.
