About Muscat

Why Choose Situ Serviced Apartments in Muscat?

Corporate apartments in Muscat are a fantastic choice for the business traveller who prefers to have their own private space. Each property offers cooking, dining, and laundry facilities, which you wouldn’t expect in a hotel room, and all at a very competitive rate too.

If you want to dine out, rather than cook for yourself, of course, you can go to any of the excellent world class restaurants in the city. However, that might not be something you want to do every night, so having your own kitchen definitely has its advantages. Many serviced apartments in Muscat have housekeeping services as well.

Luxury serviced apartments in Muscat can also be much more convenient than hotel rooms as places to do business. Guests have access to free wi-fi and some of them even have professional meeting rooms or at least places to enjoy a coffee. 'Choice' really is the keyword here – you choose a fully equipped, serviced apartment or millennium executive apartment in Muscat that offers what you require.

Where is Muscat?

Muscat is the capital and largest city in the Middle Eastern country of Oman. It’s in the north of the country, situated on the Persian Gulf coastline.

The second largest city, Seeb, is 15 miles west of the capital, while the third largest, Salalah, lies 541 miles south-west of Muscat. Almost all of the major towns, Muttrah Corniche and cities in Oman are clustered in the extreme north or south of the country.

Muscat has a population of approximately 1.6 million, meaning it is home to around 30 per cent of the country's people.

The official language here is Arabic, but Oman and its capital city are very multi-cultural. Many inhabitants originate from the Indian subcontinent, so it's not uncommon to hear Hindi or Urdu being spoken. English is also widely spoken, especially in areas popular with tourists.

The currency of Oman is the rial, with 1000 baisa making up one rial.

Visiting Muscat has direct flights to a wide range of destinations in Europe and Asia.

Business in Muscat

Oman, situated on the wealthy, oil-rich Persian Gulf coast, relies on Muscat to generate a large proportion of the nation's GDP.

The oil and gas industries are a major contributor to the wealth of Oman and its capital city. Other principal industries include construction, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, the manufacture of metals and textiles, tourism, and agriculture. Retail, education, and engineering are significant growth industries in the area.

Seeking to reduce the economy’s reliance on oil, the Omani government has offered tax reductions for small- and medium-sized corporations and has offered long-term residency to overseas investors.

Some of the largest employers centrally located in the city are Petroleum Development Oman, Shell, Unilever, Omantel, EY, American Express, Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

Things To Do in Muscat

Most Middle Eastern cities have grand mosques, but few can match Muscat’s Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Seeing the marble exterior reflected in the pool is a breathtaking experience in itself, but make sure you venture inside to see the elaborate carpets and chandeliers. Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque, with its golden domes, is also well worth visiting while stays in Muscat.

The Royal Opera House is another elaborate white marble building that should be on your list of places to see.

Apart from shopping in Muscat grand mall, the city is blessed with miles and miles of sandy beach. The sand on Qantab Beach looks like a work of art, dotted with multi-coloured stones.

Muscat also has a number of pleasant green spaces where you can escape the bustle of the city. Possibly the best of these is Qurum Natural Park, which is home to numerous bird species. It also has fountains, funfair rides, and an impressive rose garden.

There are some great places to sample Omani specialities, such as tasty lamb stews and biryanis as well as a range of non-alcoholic fruit cocktails.

Transport

By Air

The city of Seeb is where you can find Muscat International Airport, situated around 21 miles west of Muscat city centre. From here, you can fly to more than 50 cities, including London (Heathrow), Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Moscow, Istanbul, Nairobi, Cairo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Islamabad, Guangzhou, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur.

By Rail

There are plans for a city light rail system and for an inter-city high speed network, but at present, Oman has no passenger rail network.

By Bus

A network of routes connects Muscat with the other northern towns and cities, including Seeb, Sur, Nizwa and Suhar. Services typically run every 20 minutes on the most popular routes. Buses on the routes in and around the capital are usually air-conditioned. Note that all eating and drinking on these vehicles is strictly forbidden.
