About Mexico City

Why Choose Serviced Apartments in Mexico City?

Serviced accommodation is a fantastic choice for the business traveller who wants their own private space. Unlike standard hotel rooms, our serviced apartments in Mexico City offer an unparalleled level of comfort, security and independence for corporate guests.

Guests can expect Situ luxury apartments in Mexico City to have their own fully-equipped kitchen, dining and washing facilities, access to free Wi-Fi and their own allocated parking space, which you don't always get with a regular hotel room stay. Stays booked in our Mexico City apartments come with included housekeeping services too.

'Choice' really is the keyword here – you choose a property that offers what you want. For example, some business travellers prefer a quiet apartment location away from the bustle of the city centre, while others want a convenient central location in Mexico City that might be close to the office. That's what our range of serviced apartments in Mexico City provides to potential corporate bookers, a choice over how they wish to enjoy their 'home from home' experience.

Where is Mexico City?

As the name suggests, Mexico City is the capital and the largest city in Mexico. Indeed, with a population of almost 22 million, it is the fifth most populous city on earth, larger than any of the cities in the United States. From the UK, it is around 300 miles to Guadalajara, 60 miles to Puebla and 1,100 miles to Juarez, on the border with the US. However, while these cities might be the next largest in Mexico, their populations are much smaller than that of Mexico City. The capital is home to more than one in six Mexicans.

Mexico City is also located centrally within Mexico. The country’s southern border with Guatemala is almost 650 miles away, while it’s around 230 miles to Acapulco on Mexico’s Pacific coast and 300 miles to Tampico on the Atlantic coast. Most of the flights from the UK to Mexico City depart from Heathrow. Once you’ve arrived, you can travel around Mexico City on the metro or the bus network, while there are coach trips and internal flights if you want to see the rest of the country.

Business in Mexico City

Mexico has easily the largest economy of any country in the Central American and Caribbean region. Its economy is also second to Brazil in the entirety of Latin America and it now ranks amongst the world’s top 20 national economies. Investment firm Fidelity coined the term ‘MINT economies’ back in 2011, tipping Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey for rapid economic growth. Given its size when compared to other cities in the country, Mexico City also dominates Mexico’s domestic economy, being responsible for around one-quarter of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.

Various forms of manufacturing play an important role in the city’s economy. Items as diverse as iron and steel, textiles and yarn, plastics, furniture, cement and food and drink are all made here. Other significant industries include construction, tourism and financial services. According to data from both the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the World Trade Organisation, when we look at the number of hours people work per year, Mexico is home to the hardest working people on earth.

The largest employer in the city is the TV corporation America Movil. Its founder, Carlos Slim Helu, is one of the richest people in the world. Met Life, AIG, Scotia Bank, Citigroup, Nextel, Canon, Ford Motor Company and Coca Cola are some of the best-known international corporations with a presence in Mexico City. For whatever reason you choose to visit the Mexican capital, whether it is for a small networking event or to relocate your company, just remember there are many luxury apartments in Mexico City available that can cater for your business travel needs.

Visiting Mexico City

There's plenty to see and do in the city, and it is for that reason that we recommend a long stay in a serviced apartment in Mexico City, to make sure you don't miss out on anything that the area has to offer. One of the most eye-catching buildings in the city is the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts). This stunning white marble building is both a concert hall and art gallery, and the immense murals by Mexican artists on the upper floors are a must-see.

Another startling structure is the Museo Soumaya, with its geometric designtiled with 16,000 aluminium hexagons. Inside, you will find thousands of artworks and sculptures from some of the leading European and Hispanic artists, including Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Vincent van Gogh and El Greco. Mexico City is famous for its markets too. Some of the best are the La Lagunilla antique market and the La Ciudadela artisan arts and crafts market.

For a meal out you’ll truly remember, try Mesón del Cid. This well-established Spanish restaurant resembles an ancient castle, and a visit on a medieval banquet night is highly recommended. The legendary Fifty Mils bar offers a diverse seafood and grill menu, alongside its signature cocktails such as the ‘Bugs Bunny’ (carrot and gin) and the ‘Ma 75’ (melon and champagne). For some fantastic Mexican food, wine and cocktails; as well as an incredible view, head for Miralto, located on the 41st floor of the Torre Latinoamericana (Latin American Tower).

Transport

Nearest Airports

Benito Juárez International Airport is just three miles from the city centre. You can fly to Mexico City from over 100 destinations, including internal flights to Cancun, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Tijuana and regular services to US airports such as Miami, Houston, Los Angeles and New York. There are also direct flights from London Heathrow, Madrid, Paris and Tokyo.

Potential bookers can pick and choose from a range of corporate, serviced apartments in Mexico City depending on which airport they want to be based near, whether it's Benito Juárez or another further afield.

Trains in Mexico City

The metro rail system in Mexico is known as the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC). Its distinctive orange trains run on mostly underground lines through the city and its suburbs. With 12 lines, 195 stations and more than 120 miles of track, it’s larger than any of the US city subway systems, except for New York. Trains typically run every few minutes on all lines from around 6 am to midnight.

The city metro system is complemented by the Suburbano and Tren Ligero light rail systems. The Suburbano runs around 20 miles north to Cuautitlan and the Ligero line is nine miles long and ends at the southern suburb of Xochimilco, which is a World Heritage site. Again, trains are usually very frequent on these lines.
There is no inter-city passenger rail network in Mexico.

Buses in Mexico City

If you visit the city, you can’t fail to notice the Metrobus stops in the middle of some of the main thoroughfares. Seven lines are traversing the city and buses typically run frequently throughout the day, and until midnight on some routes. Much of the network operates on dedicated bus lanes, so the city’s traffic problems aren’t an issue here. The Trolebus also operates eight routes throughout the city.

Finally, there are also inter-city coaches to other cities such as Acapulco, Chipalcingo, Taxco, Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo, Veracruz, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Puebla and Monterrey; and to southern US destinations such as Tucson, El Paso and San Diego. These coaches typically have first-class and second-class travel options, with air conditioning offered as standard on first-class buses.
