Where is Oxford?

Oxford is based in central southern England in the county of Oxfordshire. The city is just over fifty miles northwest of the capital and sits between the Cotswolds and Chiltern Hills, both Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The River Thames passes through the city, too, giving it that particular bond with the capital. However, the city also has close connections with other major hubs of business, such as Reading (24 miles), Swindon (26 miles), Cheltenham (36 miles) and Gloucester (29 miles). Other neighbouring towns in Oxfordshire include Abingdon, Bicester, Farringdon, Witney, and Woodstock.

Oxford's population of just over 150,000 live in a city that is also recognised for its architectural beauty. Its nickname, the ‘city of dreaming spires’ stems from the architecture of Oxford University and the numerous Oxford colleges which flood the city and fuel the occupancy of student houses and student accommodation in Oxford.

In terms of quality of life, Oxford ranks amongst some of the top cities in the world for business freedom, travel connectivity, safety, healthcare and environmental quality. The city boasts a business survival rate of 44% for these reasons.

Furthermore, the city enjoys great transport links, aided by a nearby airport, London connections and a strong internal transportation system.

Oxford has also been recognised as one of the UK’s top creative hotspots.

Of course, science and research businesses abound in the area, but there are other major areas of business. These include car production, technology and publishing which bring an array of business travellers searching for Oxford city accommodation.
