Where is Blackfriars?

Blackfriars belongs to the historic part of London, stretching along the banks of the Thames between Waterloo Bridge and Southwark Bridge. The impressive St. Paul’s Cathedral marks the border with the City of London.

The winding old streets of Blackfriars are a unique mix of small heritage homes and dead-end lanes leading to the Thames. The A40 allows easy access to the borough from the north. The A201 and Blackfriars Bridge connect it to South London.

Business in Blackfriars

Blackfriars is a famous meeting point for thousands of businesses and has created a collaborative work environment due to its proximity to both the City and Westminster.

This location will appeal to those who require a base close to the Square Mile. The iconic One Blackfriars skyscraper is one of the most popular new developments. This offers state-of-the-art offices, a decadent business lounge, and a luxurious gym and swimming pool.

Amaze your guests with a stunning panorama of the London skyline at 58VE, one of the new event venues overlooking the Thames. Its lounge and balcony together are a perfect space for a stylish reception or a product launch.

Three modern meeting rooms for up to 50 people, equipped with cutting-edge modern technology, have been designed for more focused discussions. Another high-profile event and conference venue is The Mermaid London, a one-stop solution for hosting multitudinous conferences. What used to be a theatre is now a versatile event space for up to 2000 people.

Office Space in Town and HubHub London are thinking more along the lines of flexible working. They offer abundant co-working spaces and managed offices with meeting rooms. This new approach to working spaces has been efficient in boosting productivity and enhancing cooperation between members of the community.

Such multi-functional solutions are ideal for day events, training sessions, and meetings, thus creating a favourable atmosphere for enterprises to connect and succeed.

New developments are still springing up on both banks of the Thames in Blackfriars, turning the district into an architectural gem and generating more opportunities for businesses of all levels.

Living in Blackfriars

Visitors to London choose to stay in Blackfriars not only for the prosperous environment but also for the buzzing entertainment scene.

Blackfriars itself is an architectural marvel and attracts thousands of admirers of the modern Embankment architecture and design. The Blackfriars Bridge is a work of art, made in cast iron in the nineteenth century. The cityscape of London in and around Blackfriars is probably among the most photographed in Europe.

The main centres of the cultural and arts scene of London are only a stone’s throw away. Catch a classical play at the iconic Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, or head for Covent Garden to watch a modern piece. Both Tate Modern and the Barbican are only a short walk away. All the main tourist spots of Westminster are within easy reach as well.

Blackfriars offers plenty of choices when it comes to eating out and socializing. Both English and international restaurants here are the finest in London, alongside traditional pubs and sophisticated cocktail bars.

Blackfriars is never boring for visitors and residents alike. It provides a perfect combination of modern amenities and transport connections by day and never runs out of entertainment ideas by night.

Transport

By Air

All five London airports are equally accessible from Blackfriars. The nearest to Waterloo is London City. Get here by underground from Blackfriars to Bank, and from there a DLR train takes you to the airport in just 20 minutes. Gatwick Airport is farther away but it is the easiest to get to. There is a direct Thameslink train every 20 minutes from the airport to London Blackfriars.

Heathrow Airport is farther away, but there are multiple journey options, all of which involve more than one change. Luton Airport is over an hour away by train with Thameslink, which takes you to Luton centre. From there, use the shuttle bus to the airport itself. Travelling to Stansted Airport is tricky for Blackfriars. While there are various trains and coaches to Stansted, each journey involves more than one change and takes over one hour.

By Rail

London Blackfriars Train Station is serviced by Thameslink and Southeastern Rail. Thameslink provides regular trains to South London boroughs. Southeastern Rail offers convenient connections to south-east coast destinations. For routes to other southern cities, travellers can use the nearby Waterloo Train Station, which is only a short walk away.

By Underground

Blackfriars underground station is in Zone 1 of the District and Circle Lines between Mansion House and Temple. Both lines provide frequent trains to the City. Central Line connects the district with Westminster and Central London. The District Line runs between residential neighbourhoods from east to west. At Blackfriars it intersects with Thameslink Rail. All travel can be paid for with a London Travel Card or Oyster Card.

By Bus and Coach

Bus services are fairly reliable around Blackfriars and neighbouring districts. There are several routes across Blackfriars from City and South London, and the fare corresponds to Zone 1 of the Travel Card.

Coach services are another excellent way to explore Greater London and its surroundings. The best way to do so from Blackfriars would be to go to Victoria Station, the nearest coach station. It’s easy to get to using the District Line, and there is a direct bus route (no. 11) as well.
