About Heathrow Airport

Overview

Heathrow is the busiest airport in Europe, and among the busiest in the world, in 2017 handling a staggering 78 million passengers

About Heathrow Airport

Heathrow is an airport in West London, sitting just within the ring of the M25.  It is the busiest airport in Europe, and among the busiest in the world, in 2017 handling a staggering 78 million passengers. At the time of writing, it has four terminals open, with an older terminal – Terminal 1 – being repurposed as an extension of Terminal 2. More than just an airport, Heathrow is essentially a town in itself, with an astonishing array of shops, plenty of accommodation and a whole host of places to eat. Whether passing through on a short stay, coming and going from London, or needing to stay near Heathrow for work, Situ can provide you with serviced apartments at Heathrow Airport that will give a greater level of flexibility and space than most hotel options in the area.

Heathrow Airport started life as a small airfield in 1929, and following its expansion for RAF use during WWII, was converted for civil use to open as London Airport in 1946, before being renamed for the village which had previously occupied site – Heath Row – in 1966. It lies only 14 miles west of the centre of London, with the M4 motorway as a route out from the centre, or from points to the west. Each of the terminals also represent a stop on the London Underground’s Piccadilly Line, and there is an express train service that runs from London Paddington, taking as little as 15 minutes depending upon the terminal.

Although Terminal 2 is the newest, opening in 2014, all of the Heathrow Airport terminals can boast an excellent range of shops, restaurants and more. From practical stores, such as Boots, Dixons Travel, M&S Simply Food and WH Smith, to exclusive stores like Harrods and designer brands like Dior and Gucci, plus watch shops and even toy shops, there is very little that can’t be found, especially among the duty frees. The choice of eateries is almost as comprehensive, with a mix of coffee shops, traditional eateries, fine dining and world food.

If you’re staying in accommodation at Heathrow, you can also use it as a springboard to explore attractions in London and other places nearby.  For instance, Windsor is not far beyond the M25, home to the famous royal castle, Legoland Windsor Resort and with ascot racecourse just a little beyond that. Thorpe Park is also just a few miles to the south. With a relatively easy journey into the centre of London, it can also be a good spot from which to travel in and do the ‘touristy stuff’, like exploring the Tower of London, Madame Tussaud’s and perhaps taking a ride on the London Eye. Chiswick also lies in West London, about halfway towards the centre, and is home to many major international companies, so again our Heathrow Airport city apartments could be a good way to stay close to the action.

Situ has a large range of serviced apartments in and around London and the Heathrow Airport area, with options ranging from large properties to spacious aparthotel rooms, there’s something for every need.
