Transport

By Air

The main airport for Amstelveen is Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, only 14 kilometres from the centre of Amstelveen. This is the main airport of the Netherlands and a busy international hub for international and long-haul flights. It serves flights to two hundred and sixty destinations in more than ninety countries.

There is a frequent bus connection from Amstelveen to the airport, and a taxi ride will take you only 15 minutes. Line 370 runs between Amsterdam Airport, Amsterdam Zuid Station, and Amsterdam Centre.

Amsterdam Airport has a train station as well, located directly below the airport. High-speed trains also serve popular international destinations of Antwerp, Brussels, Frankfurt, and Berlin.

By Rail

The nearest train stations serving Amstelveen are WTC and Schiphol, providing excellent national and international travel connections. Tickets for the day of travel are available from a ticket office at the station or from a vending machine. You can purchase tickets online well in advance and use your e-ticket with a bar code.

There is a special train taxi available from WTC and Amsterdam Zuid to any destination in Amstelveen. The tickets for this taxi can be purchased from the train station ticket offices or vending machines.

By Bus

The municipality of Amstelveen has an excellent public transport system which allows convenient travel to every part of the municipality. Urban rail lines 5 and 51 and bus lines 170, 172, and 174 connect Amstelveen to Amsterdam. The central bus station of Amstelveen is the central hub for most rail and bus lines.

All public transport can be paid for with an OV-chip card. The cards are available from vending machines in the central bus station, the railway station Amsterdam Zuid, and urban rail stops.

All OV-chip cards need to be swiped at card readers at the start and the end of your journey. Failure to do so will result in the loss of your travel deposit.

Taxis are available from multiple taxi ranks around the city but cannot be hailed in the street. You can book one by phone, but this will include an extra charge.
