Exeter and its 130,000 population are based in Devon in the South West of England. Its significance as the heart of the county is magnified by the intersecting River Exe.
There is no mistaking that both Exeter and Devon are considered amongst the best places to live in the UK. A report produced by Arcadis found that Exeter outscored every other British city in terms of quality of life. This took into account aspects such as mortality rates, cost of living, the amount of green space and crime rate.
So you don’t just have to take our word for it that Exeter is an ideal place to visit, whether short or long-term.
The economy of Exeter rightly catches the eye of those looking to migrate. Exeter leads over Plymouth and Torquay as the largest urban centre in rural Devon, home to over 4,000 registered businesses. The city has also continued to be amongst the top ten cities for Gross Value Added, and this trend is only set to continue.
Exeter has a low unemployment rate compared to other UK cities. Evidently, those choosing to stay in Exeter corporate housing have every opportunity of enhancing or changing their career path.
There are plenty of good places to eat and drink across Exeter, venture into the city centre to discover the range of venues on offer – personal favourites that our Situ team members love to visit include On The Waterfront (great for pizza and views of the river Exe) and the Turk’s Head (a fantastic option for evening drinks after work).
The Exeter Quay is a great place to see during your visit. Here, visitors can hire a kayak, go climbing or sailing, check out a variety of eateries or find a good pub or night club, all in one place. For those needing to work remotely, the Quay also has an excellent co-working space (Generator Hub) that our team has personally used and recommend.
There are plenty of green spaces across Exeter too. On the outskirts of Exeter city centre, there is Mincinglake Valley Park, Riverside Valley Park, the picturesque Pinces Gardens, Bury Meadow Park, and many more. They mix well with Exeter's urban scene to create an environment blessed with diversity.
Ultimately, Exeter is our hometown, so when you book your accommodation through us you will be speaking to Exeter locals who have all the insights you need to make your stay a great one. This is where our journey began and where our head office is. Therefore, we make sure to provide the best Exeter serviced apartments on the market in a city blessed with wonderful attractions, a blossoming economy, and a rich history – we know everything there is to know about staying in Exeter, so make sure to get in touch and we’ll support you in making your stay as good as it can possibly be.
Exeter weather is often mild but changeable throughout the year (typical for the UK!). Summers are usually pleasant with warm days and cool evenings, though showers can arrive unexpectedly. Winters are generally gentle with occasional frost and rain. Spring and autumn offer mixed conditions, shifting from sunshine to showers with little warning. Pack layers for visits, including a light waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes. Check the forecast before heading out and keep an umbrella handy. In warm months wear sunscreen and a hat. Autumn breezes can feel sharp, so an extra layer helps. Embrace the variety and plan activities around the forecast each season.
This guide was written by Exeter resident, Esther Plant, Campaign Manager at Situ. Esther’s favourite places to visit in Exeter are the magnificent Exeter Cathedral and the city centre for its selection of cafes.
Just outside the city centre is Exeter International Airport (EXT), voted in recent years as the ‘happiest’ airport in regard to customer satisfaction. Most importantly, the airport handles the travel of around one million passengers each year to destinations all over the globe.
The airport is only a five-minute car journey from both the city centre and the M5 motorway. The city's train stations are no further than ten minutes away by car too. Furthermore, upon request, across our Exeter accommodation, airport taxi transfers can be arranged.
Stagecoach South West is the main bus operator in Exeter, which accompanies National Express, the biggest operator of longer-distance coach services in the city.
If you are moving to Exeter as a keen bus-user, it is worthwhile investing in a PlusBus ticket. This ticket enables unlimited bus travel across participating operators’ (including Stagecoach) services across the entire urbanity of Exeter. We can also help visitors to the city choose Exeter apartments which benefit from guests required bus route stops.
The city of Exeter is blessed with an array of functioning railway stations. Within the city centre, there is a collection of Exeter stations; St David's, St Thomas and Central. These stations run along the Great Western Railway and South Western Railway lines, which St David's also runs along the Cross Country route.
Outside the city to the east is Polsloe Bridge, Pinhoe, Digby & Sowton, Newcourt, Topsham and Cranbrook. Whilst Polsloe and Cranbrook run along the South Western Railway Line, the others run along the Great Western Railway line.
Serviced apartments can be described as more like ‘home away from homes’. Available for either short or long term corporate stays, serviced apartments are a form of fully furnished and facilitated housing that allows guests to live away from home throughout business trips, with easy access to everything they need.
Corporate guests staying in a serviced apartment in Exeter can expect to have a range of home-like facilities at their disposal when they book a stay, with the minimum being, a fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi and internet access, a TV, laundry facilities, available parking and a housekeeping service.
Unlike hotels, serviced apartments in Exeter are located, equipped and designed with corporate travellers in mind, including a range of home-like amenities complimented by hotel-like services.
