Most famous for London Paddington Railway Station and Paddington Bear, the district of Paddington encompasses a fair-sized area in the City of Westminster to the north of Hyde Park. Even though it isn’t thought of as a residential area in the same way that other nearby areas like Notting Hill and Kensington are, business travellers nonetheless like staying in accommodation close to London Paddington as it has some of the best train links across the southern part of the UK, as well as running regular services to Heathrow Terminals 4 and 5.

Recent investment in chic high-rise housing has, however, led to more high-earning professionals frequenting Paddington than perhaps used to, as well as great availability for quality short term accommodation. The Alexander Fleming Laboratory recreates the famous scientist’s workspace from when he made the world’s first penicillin in 1928, while the Paddington Basin has the wonderfully contrasting sights of traditional canal barges floating beneath glass-walled towers. Indeed, the basin links up to the area known as Little Venice, just to the north of Paddington, where the high-rises give way a little to grass and trees and an overall relaxed vibe.

Paddington is also right next to Hyde Park, where there is not only an abundance of open space, but also usually something fun going on. Express yourself – or listen to someone else doing so – at Speaker’s Corner, relax and the lakeside Lido Bar and Café, enjoy the exhibitions at the Serpentine Gallery and the royal museum at Kensington Palace.
